Pharmacies - how they can help
Pharmacists play a key role in providing quality healthcare to patients. Working in the community, primary care and hospitals, they use their clinical expertise together with their practical knowledge to ensure the safe supply and use of medicines by patients and members of the public.
Pharmacists also offer advice on common problems such as coughs and colds, aches and pains, as well as healthy eating and stopping smoking. They can also help you decide whether you need to see a doctor.
You can walk into any pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist. Most pharmacies now have a private consultation area where patients can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard by other members of the public.
Many pharmacies offer out of hours services through extended opening hours, rota services and on-call services.

A new service has been introduced to improve the way the following continence products are prescribed:
This change means these items will be prescribed by the Continence Prescription Service and not your GP practice. The service is run by a specialist nurse who will now provide the prescription for your continence products.
As part of this new service there is no change to who sends you your continence products just the way you order your prescriptions. Prescriptions issued can be sent to your home address in the post, to your local community pharmacy or can be sent to a Dispensing Appliance Contractor (DAC) of your choice, who can deliver the products to you.
To order your products please call 0300 003 0776 between 9.30am to 3.30pm.
