National consultation to tackle prescription costs
A national consultation was carried out on plans to cut down on the number of prescriptions given for medicines that can be bought cheaper over the counter.
The consultation, run jointly by NHS England (NHSE) and NHS Clinical Commissioners (NHSCC), looked at 33 minor short-term health conditions, where medicines to treat them bought over the counter could save around £136m for the NHS.
People were invited to take part in the consultation either online or send their response in writing to NHS England.
A summary of responses was been published on the NHSE website once the consultation closed and a joint clinical working group finalised commissioning guidelines.
