We will commission consistently high quality planned care services that work with patients to deliver the best outcomes possible, so that when you need an operation or a planned course of treatment you'll know that it's being provided to your requirements in the best possible way to ensure the best possible outcome.
Every year hospital activity increases and we know that we cannot continue to afford this. We also know that hospital-based treatment does not always deliver the best outcomes for patients - community-based support and advice can often help people manage their own conditions better. If and when further treatment is required community-based diagnostic tests and treatment can support many more patients close to home without the need for a costly and inconvenient hospital visit.
We will use developing technology and support closer working between hospital specialists (nurses, doctors and other health professionals), GPs and community staff to deliver more services closer to home.
